The former Ruttan Mine is located approximately 23 kilometres east of the village of Leap Rapids. The mine and mill operated for nearly 30 years until closing in 2002. Throught the years since closing, remediation has been in the works.
In ths phase of rehabilitation the main focus is on upgrading the Tailings Management Areas (TMA) and the West Dam to direct acd mine drainage (AMD) water to the "open pit" and clean water to the environment.
MI 7024: Provincial Road 391 gets 64.1 km of Asphalt Surface Treatment, or "Chip Seal". This section lies between the PR 280 intersection (just North of Thompson) and the Nelson House access road.
MI 7039: Multiple culvert replacements on Provincial Road 269, PTH 10A, and PR 328 in the RM of Mossey River, the Municipalty of Ethelbert and the Electorial Division of Interlake. The process includes removal and installation of through-grade culverts, including frost tapers and bituminous patching.
MI 7020: Improvements made to a 28 km section of Provincial Trunk Highway 6, from the Wabowden access to Sasagiu Rapids. Areas here required increased width and ditch grade differential. A general discription of the work includes composite material excavation, as well as solid rock excavation, and drainage improvements.
